Declare Psalm 23 and Watch Your Walls Fall
By Dr. Verlyn Fontaine Waterman
The Shepherd Who Sustained Me
During one of the most painful seasons of my life—while I was undergoing radiation therapy—the Lord spoke clearly to my spirit. He instructed me to declare Psalm 23 over my life every day. He promised that if I obeyed, He would provide for me abundantly. He will heal me, restote me and pritect me. I am now a witness to that promise. i live in that truth.
But before all that, I must say, I tried--in truth, the pain and fatigue overwhelmed me, and I wasn’t always consistent. Yet the call to speak this psalm never left me. at times i started and got confuse, mixing it upor completely forgetting what to say, yet I persisted.
Recently, God began prompting me again, and this time, His urging has been even more intense. That morning, it became undeniable. I know that faithfully declaring Psalm 23 will release significant breakthroughs, bring divine provision, and usher in deep peace, because i saw the result each time I committed to it. Now with greater clarity and from a place of wholeness I not only say it--I live it.
Walls Come Down Through My Obedience
As I reflected on this, God reminded me of the story of the Israelites and the walls of Jericho:
“And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days.
And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams’ horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets.
And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat…” Joshua 6:3-5 (KJV)
For six days, the Israelites walked around Jericho’s massive walls in silence, obedient to God’s instructions. On the seventh day, they marched around the city seven times. Then, on the seventh lap, they lifted a mighty shout, believing that God had already given them the city. And the walls fell flat.
Their victory came through obedience and consistency--not clarity, but Obedience.
Psalm 23 Challenge
From my future self to you, I want to extend this heartfelt invitation:
I invite you to declare Psalm 23 out loud twice a day.
In the morning, speak it as your invitation for God to shepherd you through the day ahead:
- To guide you beside still waters.
- To provide for every need.
- To protect you in every challenge.
In the evening, speak it again as your declaration of trust:
- To surrender the day’s outcomes to Him.
- To rest in His protection and peace.
- To reaffirm that even if you don’t yet see results, you still believe He is working on your behalf.
Why Psalm 23?
Psalm 23 is not just poetry—it is a powerful declaration over every area of your life. It affirms that because the Lord is your Shepherd, you truly lack nothing. He:
- Leads you into places of rest and refreshment.
- Restores your soul when you’re weary or broken.
- Guides you in paths of righteousness.
- Walks with you through the darkest valleys.
- Prepares blessings even in the presence of your enemies.
- Anoints you with favor until your cup overflows.
- Promises that goodness and mercy will follow you all the days of your life.
Be Consistent. Watch the Walls Fall.
Just as the Israelites circled Jericho, this challenge is about faithful, consistent obedience. Your daily declarations are not empty words. They are acts of faith proclaiming that God has already given you victory over every wall in your life—walls of fear, sickness, lack, discouragement, or anything else standing in your way.
Speak it until you believe it. Declare it until your walls fall. Keep proclaiming it until you see the salvation of the Lord.
Will you join me in this remarkable journey? Let Psalm 23 become the anthem of your faith—the shout that brings your walls tumbling down.
A Prayer to Begin Your Journey
Lord, teach me the power of obedience and consistency. As I declare Psalm 23 over my life, let walls fall, battles be won, and blessings overflow. I believe that You have already given me the victory. Help me walk in faith, day by day. Amen.
Will you take the challenge? Let me know in the comments how God meets you through Psalm 23 this week. Together, let’s walk in the shelter of His divine favor.
