InVest N’ Me!

Spending vs. Investing

There is a profound difference between spending and investing.

One night, while listening to a Neville Goddard lecture, I heard a story that struck me deeply. Neville shared how his wife suddenly awoke from her sleep, rushed to grab the dictionary, and searched for the word invest. She had just dreamt of a voice saying to her:

“Stop spending your thoughts, time, and money—and invest them.”

This confirmed what had already been stirring in me. Earlier that very day, I had told a friend: “When we fully understand that investing is better than spending, we will diligently pursue it.”

The principal thing to do is invest.

Why Investing Matters

Investing makes spending more purposeful and even more pleasurable.

The thoughts, time, and money we invest in ourselves allow us to grow, to build balance and security for both our present and our future. And when we invest those same resources into others, the return is multiplied—creating a ripple effect of growth, stability, and blessing.

Everything begins with our thoughts. The subconscious mind faithfully reflects what we deposit into it. What we dwell on eventually takes form. Ideas, opportunities, and resources are born out of thought, shaping both our own lives and those around us.

Spend vs. Invest

Spend means: “to use or give out the whole of; exhaust.”

Invest means: “to expend with the expectation of achieving a profit or result—by putting it into a venture, property, or plan that develops and produces increase.”

We all use our thoughts, time, and money daily. But how we perceive these actions determines whether they are merely spent or truly invested.

When we spend money on goods and services, we can choose to see it as investment—an exchange that brings maintenance, growth, or benefit.

When we shape and guard our thoughts, treating them as seeds, they become investments that yield profit in our future reality.

Guarding the True Source

Proverbs 4:23 reminds us:

Watch over your heart with all diligence, for out of it are the sources of life.” (TS2009)

Our thoughts are life’s source. They must be guarded, cultivated, and directed with wisdom. The I AM within us—our divine essence and being—flows through what we think, believe, and act upon.

When we stop carelessly spending time, thoughts, and money, and instead view them as investments, we step into alignment with God’s abundance and purpose.
