Meet Me at the Well – When Thirst Meets the Living Water
A Blog by Dr. Verlyn Fontaine Waterman--Who Is She Movement
“Whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” John 4:14 (NKJV)
A Divine Appointment
It was noon when she came to draw water—tired, alone, and carrying more than just a water jar.
Her life was marked by whispered accusations, relational wounds, and the emptiness of a soul running on empty.
What she didn’t know was that Heaven had scheduled a divine appointment for her at Jacob’s well. Jesus—the One who knew her story and loved her still—was waiting.
Wells in the Bible are more than physical water sources; they are sacred meeting places where need meets provision and brokenness meets restoration.
When Jesus Meets Us at the Well
The Samaritan woman wasn’t looking for Jesus, but Jesus was looking for her.
He broke cultural, gender, and moral barriers to reach her heart.
His conversation wasn’t about water—it was about the deep, unspoken thirst she carried.
Isaiah 12:3 – “With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.”
At the well, He offered her Living Water—a flow that would end her soul’s drought forever.
The Transformation
That one encounter changed everything.
- She found her identity in Him.
- She left behind her old jar—symbol of her past patterns.
- She ran to share her testimony, and many believed because of her words.
- Her story reminds us: One moment with Jesus can rewrite your entire life.
Your Well Moment
We all have a “well”—a place where Jesus wants to meet us:
- In the middle of shame, He offers dignity.
- In the depths of weariness, He offers strength.
- In the wilderness of searching, He offers direction.
When we meet Him at the well, our lives begin to overflow.
John 7:38 – “He who believes in Me… out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”

The Well Encounter Prayer
Lord Jesus,
I come to the well—not hiding, not running, but ready to meet You.
I lay down my empty jar and my endless thirst.
Wash me in Your Living Water, restore my soul, and let my life overflow.
May all who encounter me taste and see Your goodness.
Amein.
