Peace in the Valley. Peace in the Wait.
Dr. Verlyn Fontaine Waterman|A Who Is She Blog
Yesterday morning, I awoke with a song on my lips—one I hadn’t heard in years:
“There will be peace in the valley for me…”
A classic written in 1939 by Thomas Dorsey for Mahalia Jackson, the lyrics felt more like a declaration than a memory.
And the truth is, I have been experiencing an abundance of peace.
Not fleeting. Not circumstantial. But a deep, anchoring, supernatural peace that flows from within and wraps around me like a warm covering. I believe I will carry this peace throughout the rest of my journey.
This peace is not just a feeling—it’s part of my heavenly inheritance. It is a component of the wealth that has been reserved for me.
Many people chase wealth in the form of money but overlook the wealth of a sound mind, a restful spirit, and a heart anchored in divine assurance.
Leaning Into Peace While Under Pressure
This morning reminded me why peace is essential.
I woke up feeling that nauseating sensation—not from sickness, but from the stress of financial demands. The weight of needing resources for basic essentials pressed in fast.
In that moment, I could’ve spiraled.
But instead, I leaned into peace.
My initial thought was, “Here comes another day of the grind…”
But the Holy Spirit caught me.
I immediately shifted my words and spirit and said:
“Lord, I give this to You while I wait.”
The Sacred Art of Waiting
Waiting has become a sacred discipline for me.
It’s not passive—it’s deeply active. It’s a posture, a spiritual recalibration, and a form of worship.
Waiting is not punishment—it’s preparation.
Yes, it has cost me. It has broken my pride and tested my faith.
But it has also built spiritual stamina, sharpened discernment, and taught me how to withdraw emotional and spiritual substance from God’s reservoir instead of man’s opinions.
Waiting strips you of the need to prove anything and instead clothes you in the quiet confidence of divine timing.
Scripture Meditation
Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
Devotional Reflection:
- “They that wait…” — Waiting isn’t weak. It’s holy. It’s the posture of those who trust that Heaven never forgets.
- “…shall renew their strength…” — Your energy is replenished not by rest alone, but by trust.
- “…mount up with wings as eagles…” — Eagles don’t flap frantically. They glide on wind. This is prophetic: you’re being taught how to rise with ease, not struggle.
- “…run and not be weary…” — Momentum is coming. It will be sustained, not short-lived.
- “…walk and not faint.” — Even your slow seasons will carry grace.
Where I Stand Now
Right now, I’m basking in the abundance of peace
…even as I await the abundance of finances to enter and occupy my life.
I don’t want fleeting money. I desire sustained provision, rooted in purpose, peace, and alignment.
And I believe—just like peace—that when wealth arrives, it will remain.
Devotional Takeaway
Prayer:
Lord, help me to wait on You—not in frustration, but in faith.
Let Your peace anchor me when provision hasn’t yet arrived.
I believe Your timing is perfect, and what You’ve promised will manifest.
Until then, I will dwell in the abundance of peace and walk in the valley knowing You are with me. Amen.
Confession:
I dwell in peace while I wait.
I believe finances are flowing toward me.
I trust in God’s divine timing.
I will not faint—I will rise.
