Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid

By Dr. Verlyn Fontaine Waterman

Guard your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the wellsprings of life.” – Proverbs 4:23

There are moments in life when silence is not a void, but a vessel.

Not all truths need to be spoken aloud.

Not every pain must be explained.

Not every wound requires an audience.

Over the course of my journey on this earth, I’ve come to understand something sacred:

There are some experiences—some betrayals, rejections, injustices, and heartbreaks—that are best left between the soul and God.

Not because they don’t matter.

Not because they should be buried in denial.

But because speaking them prematurely—or to the wrong people—can inflict more damage than healing.

When Sacred Becomes Private

Some wounds are sacred.

They carry a weight too holy for casual exposure.

They are not secrets—they are sacred transactions, wrapped in spiritual intimacy.

There are stories that are not yet ready to be told, and others that will only ever be understood in the presence of God.

You see, I believe in release.

I believe in healing, in letting go, in speaking truth to power.

But I’ve also learned—through wisdom, pain, and divine prompting—that not everything is meant to be unearthed publicly.

Some matters must be surrendered to the altar, not the algorithm.

The Power of Discernment

Discernment is not just about knowing what is true—it’s about knowing when, how, and to whom the truth should be shared.

Because not everyone can carry your pain.

Not everyone can handle your vulnerability.

Not everyone deserves your unfiltered soul.

There are people who will misuse your testimony, mishandle your healing, or reduce your sacredness to gossip.

That’s why the Holy Spirit whispers: “Hold this. Not here. Not yet.”

In those moments, I’ve learned to listen.

To not speak.

To pour it out before God, the only One who fully sees, fully knows, and fully understands.

When Silence Heals More Than Words

Silence, when spirit-led, is not avoidance—it is alignment.

It’s not suppression—it is submission to divine timing.

Some things must be kept in the secret place because they are still being transformed into wisdom.

There is a difference between hiding and healing.

Between repression and reverence.

When God says, “Let Me have that,”

It’s not because He doesn’t want you to speak—

It’s because He wants to heal you privately before He reveals you publicly.

Not Everything Needs to Be Said to Be Real

The world teaches us to share everything.

But the Spirit teaches us to guard what is sacred.

Not every revelation is for the world.

Some are just for you.

Some are just for healing.

Some are just for worship.

So I’ve learned to hold the sacred things in my heart.

To journal them in silence.

To lay them before the Father.

And to walk in peace, knowing they are seen, even when unspoken.

Final Reflection

Beloved,

Not everything needs to be said aloud.

Not everything is for public healing.

Some things are between you and God—whispered in secret, transmuted into strength, and sealed with grace.

Speak when He tells you.

Release what needs to be let go.

And guard your heart—

Because from it flows the very life you’re called to live.

Some things…

are better left unsaid.

Until Heaven says, “Now.”
